Lyoto Machida Not in Line for Title Shot Next

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida has done everything in his power to get another shot at the title, currently held by Jon Jones. However, if the rumors doing the rounds in the promotion are anything to go by, he is not likely to get a shot at the title anytime soon. Dana White, the president of the UFC is, however, keeping mum about what lie next for the Light Heavyweight division or for Machida.

But White has confirmed that the Brazilian will have to fight another time in the cage before he can get a shot at the title. In light of the cancellation of UFC 151 due to the injury of Dan Henderson, Machida was offered the fight against Jon Jones, but it came at such short notice that neither party could reach any decision regarding a fight.

Lyoto Machida was, as a matter of fact, promised a shot at the title after he knocked out Ryan Bader in just the second round of their match at UFC on FOX 4. But that isn’t something that will happen anytime soon. Jon Jones was offered the fight against Chael Sonnen for UFC 151, but he decided against it. And although the UFC did offer the fight to Machida for UFC 152, slated for the 22nd of September, he decided to decline the fight due to the lack of time to prepare for it.

And it seems that this decision will go against him as White has made it clear that he will not be fighting the winner of the Jon Jones v/s Vitor Belfort match at UFC 152 later in the year. White made it clear that for a guy like Lyoto Machida to turn down a fight citing four weeks as not much time says a lot about his desire.
