Ryan Bader to take on Lyoto Machida

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC fighter Ryan Bader is habituated with being termed as the underdog for a fight. However, losing is something that he is still not habituated with. And Bader will be the underdog once again on the 4th of August when he will go head to head with the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at the famous Staples Center Arena in Los Angeles, California, United States of America.

It would be quite easy to understand why The Dragon is being considered as the favorite for the match, having been a champion in a division that boast the likes of Jon Jones, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and several others, and he has defended his title on a few occasions as well. However, if one goes deeper to inspect the situation, Bader might just well be the favorite to win the match. Over the last couple of years, since 2010 to be exact, Lyoto Machida has managed to win only 1 of the 4 fights that he has entered in, taking his overall record down to 17-3.

Although he defeated Cain Velasquez at UFC 129, using his signature flying kick that earned him the Knockout of the Year title, he has been devastated by his opponents in the losses that he has chalked up. Bader has a record of 14-2 in Mixed Martial Arts and is currently on a winning streak of 2 matches, with his last notable victory coming against Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

Lyoto Machida, on the other hand, had lost to Rampage and both of them had been defeated by Jon Jones, the current champion. Josh Koscheck, who was beaten by Machida, went on the beat Bader in his next match. So, on paper, it seems a very evenly poised match and only the fight night will reveal the winner.
